Evelyn Mae’s 12-16 Months Old Update

July 6, 2021 · In: Evelyn Mae's Update

I love typing these updates of Evelyn but they make me so emotional seeing how much she has grown.

In this post I will be sharing Evelyn’s 12-16 months old update.

Like I always say please do not compare your baby to my baby. All pregnancies, babies, recoveries, and individuals are unique in their own ways. And that is okay, thats the beauty of motherhood journey.

Evelyn’s Milestones

Motor Skills

Gross Motor: Like I mentioned in my 9-12 month baby update, Evelyn started walking couple of days before she turned 11months old. She has developed tremendously in this area.

Evelyn demonstrates awareness of major body parts by exploring their movement potential.

Evelyn manipulates objects, using one or more body parts, with limited stability. To specify, when Evelyn is playing ball, she raises arm to throw the ball. She catches a ball while in a stationary position, using arms to bring it in and hold it against body.

Fine Motor: Evelyn explores ways to use one hand, or to use both hands doing the same movements, to manipulate objects. For instance, she scribbles back and fourth using one hand.

She loves the Lovevery WOODEN COIN BANK SET. This set practice fine motor precision while posting with coins, carrots, and smaller home items for fun DIY flexibility.

She loves pouring the baking ingredients in the big mixing bowl and as she mixes the ingredients with a whisk, she loves to taste the mixture.

Social and Emotional

Evelyn shows increasing awareness of self as distinct from and also related to others. She can point her body parts, when being named. She can communicate names of familiar people (e.g., “daddy “grandpa,”)

Evelyn has developed close relationships with familiar adults and familiar children and interacts in an increasingly competent and cooperative manner with them.

Evelyn loves to greet everyone with a smile and a “hi” She definitely has an extrovert personality.

Language

Receptive: Evelyn shows understanding of frequently used simple phrases and sentences. For example;

She puts diaper in the trash can after I communicate, “Throw your diaper away”

She walks to the bathroom after I communicate, “It’s bath time”

Expressive: Evelyn’s expressive language developed from nonverbal communication to using language with increasingly complex words.

Evelyn continues to love books. She looks at book on own briefly. She likes when we sing nursery rhymes and when we use puppets. Also, we have been going over the ABC’s Phonics and she participates by trying to make the sounds and flip the pages.

I have a free ABC’s Phonics printable here

Self Help Skills

Evelyn is such an independent girl. She now participates in own hygiene routines, with daddy and my help. Evelyn let’s us know she has a dirty diaper. She washes her own hands. Brushes own teeth. Wipes her own nose. Wipes her hands and face after meals.

Cognitive Learning. Thinking, Problem-Solving

Evelyn engages in simple purposeful explorations of familiar objects in the environment. For instance, stacks blocks to see how high they can go before falling over. Also, Evelyn searches for possible causes of actions, events, or behaviors. She uses number names, but not always correctly, in situations related to number or quantity. She signs, “one,” in response to the question of “How old are you?”
